We’ll trouble them only if we play like we did the first 15 minutes against France.
Should be worried about Tunisia’s performance against Denmark though.
Three things we learned in Australia’s loss to France
Fair argument but you can’t forget that Switzerland essentially knocked out the reigning European champions in Italy during qualifying and beat France last year at the euros. Always underrated but it’s understandable at the same time.
FIFA World Cup group by group predictions and analysis
It’s still a factor at the end of the day though. Other teams are going to take time to adjust compared to others who are used to this type of heat like Mexico for example who experienced an incredibly hot World Cup in 1978 but they are used to playing in those conditions. I know it will come down to more than just that obviously, but still needs to be talked about.
Five reasons Australia can get out of their World Cup group
It’s not just about the team spirit and togetherness. They played some pretty exciting stuff during qualifying and are a huge threat especially on the counter-attack with the amount of pace they have at their disposal. Inexperience could be a factor though
FIFA World Cup group by group predictions and analysis
Serbia are stacked with talent but this has been the case in years gone past (this is the most talented in my opinion)…but they are known for disappointing when there is a bit of expectation placed on their shoulders and the team unity evaporates rather quickly which has become a common theme for them. Switzerland do not have this problem and you know what you’re going to get from them consistently.
FIFA World Cup group by group predictions and analysis
Not enough people are talking about Canada and their potential.
Morocco have a lot of talent on paper but always struggle to put it all together at major tournaments.
Not as much excitement around Japan compared to previous World Cups, but they’re still technically good and can still pose a threat.
FIFA World Cup group by group predictions and analysis
Conditions and familiarity of the country are only small factors but one that could make the difference. On paper, the quality is on different levels obviously, but that doesn’t mean that upsets can’t happen in a relatively unpredictable World Cup. Australia need to be cautious about their game style of not sitting too deep and not taking too many risks out from the back
FIFA World Cup group by group predictions and analysis
True Cameron, but it’s potentially going to be the most unpredictable World Cup especially during mid-season. They’re at peak fitness like you said, but has playing too many games all crammed in going to be an advantage, seeing quite a few players go down injured? Most Aussie players don’t have that issue, but on the contrary, the intensity factor won’t help Australia which can be argued as a negative.
FIFA World Cup group by group predictions and analysis
They will need to face the best at some point so if they’re good enough to win it then they will openly take on the challenge with confidence
This is Messi's chance to finally win over Argentina fans
For me, Arnold hasn’t experimented enough in regards to the number 9 position. I feel as though he gave too many chances to someone like Adam Taggart who just couldn’t cut it unfortunately, which took game time off a player such as Jamie Maclaren. To this day, I still don’t understand why he has featured so little and not started more games for the Socceroos considering our struggles up front.
Socceroos rarely score at the World Cup, where will the goals come from in Qatar?
The heat won’t just be a factor inside the stadiums but also day-to-day such as training etc. Think it will be tougher to adapt to than some people may view it
Five reasons Australia can get out of their World Cup group
Think there’s nothing silly about an opinion on Australia being able to make it to the last 16. Didn’t say we would win the World Cup, that would be silly. I just feel as though people are writing us off a bit prematurely
Five reasons Australia can get out of their World Cup group
Mat Ryan has probably been one of the most disappointing players in the past few years. Yes he loves the shirt, but he is prone to mistakes and in my opinion a bit overrated.
Five reasons Australia can get out of their World Cup group
Just don’t feel as though he offers enough going forward to make himself ‘invincible’ for Arnold to constantly select. At some point he needs to stand up and do some heavy lifting of his own, especially being such an experienced player
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
The decision shouldn’t be based on which nation he has the best chance of playing for or if Italy reject him then Australia is his second option
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
If Volpato truly had his heart set on Australia he would’ve accepted the call-up for the World Cup there’s no doubt about it. Again, he has always stated his desire to play for Italy and I guess you can’t blame him for the way he was treated here on top of the youth teams such as the Olyroos never calling him up once, and now all of a sudden Arnold wants him in. If Volpato was in the position of getting a call-up for Italy this WC if they qualified, do you think he would’ve seriously turned it down?
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
The thing with the Langerak situation is why call Langerak back for the friendlies against NZ and not even pick him ahead of Vukovic? In terms of form in the past few years, Vukovic doesn’t come close. If the reason for not selecting Langerak was due to unsettling the core 3 goalkeepers with Crawley, then it was a waste of time for Arnold to convince him to return to camp.
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
This isn’t going to be a popular opinion by any stretch but I would seriously consider taking out Leckie. His end product in the final third has always been a let down and he doesn’t score enough goals or contribute enough to warrant a ‘guaranteed place’ as I think it’s mostly down to his reputation.
Asian Cup – 8 games 0 goals
World Cup – 6 games 0 goals
Confederations Cup – 3 games 0 goals
Just 1 assist at the Asian Cup is simply not good enough and on the biggest stage he hasn’t produced when we’ve needed him most. Give Tilio a chance to show what he’s made of
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
Should be no complaints about Mooy going to the WC though
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
I’m exactly with you Aiden. France can implode but you always know what you’re getting with Denmark. In saying that though, the squad of the Danes isn’t too different to that of 2018 where we took a point off them. It was 4 years ago but still a confidence boost
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
The Australian coaches overseas are definitely a bright spot for sure.
I don’t see Australia conceding 10 goals in the group even though we are up against France. People need to remember that the strong nations are always notorious for starting off slow at major tournaments and Australia almost pinched a point off them at the opening game of the 2018 WC. Tunisia I can see us getting points off but they still need to be respected. Denmark will be tough to break down, but it should be more respectable than you are making it out to be
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
He wasn’t the strongest player by any stretch either…
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
It’s more Sydney’s reputation as a club more than anything else which gives those players you mentioned a better name. Can’t be forgotten that Sydney haven’t been at their peak for a couple of years now
Arnold is sending the wrong message with his World Cup squad
I think Arnold’s time is definitely up and for me, he didn’t deserve to be hired again in the first place. We need a modern football coach with a clear game style which obviously would preferably be keeping the ball and playing attacking football at every opportunity. Forget the win against Argentina, some of the long ball football played at the Olympics was incredibly hard to watch

Hrustic was greatly missed to provide that creativity and spark through the transition phase you were talking about
