I think Hardie doesn’t get in…purely because of Green.
Others like Morris/Perry/Bartlett/Sutherland maybe.
Agar getting his turn could be another unlucky break for Maxwell’s chances of Australian return in any format
what’s your Test XI in 3/4 years time Don?
How do Hardie and Teague fit in?
Presumably there’s no Will Pucovski….
1 Hunt
2 Street
3 Marnus
4 Cameron Green
5 Steve Smith – move down the order a la M Clarke
6 Teague Wylie
7 Aaron Hardie
8 Josh Inglis
9 Jhye Richardson
10 Pat Cummins (C)
11 Mitchell Swepson
Agar getting his turn could be another unlucky break for Maxwell’s chances of Australian return in any format
Happy with that as long as Marnus’ Test average remains 50+ for his career! 🙂

Green can be the third quick option for sure. Just not sure right now, in the subcontinent.
Also, someone was saying there’s 15 Tests over the next like 8 months…plus BBL, Shield, ODIs, T20s and the IPL! Green better pick his options otherwise he might breakdown. I could easily see him skipping some ODIs/IPL/BBL matches to be an entreched Test player – hopefully at #5 in the Test team soon!
Heady days: Openers star as Aussies begin post-Finch era with resounding win over England
yeah when will Hardie get a call up? In any form of the game for Australia!
Heady days: Openers star as Aussies begin post-Finch era with resounding win over England
Yeah interesting on Carey. I rate him more highly as a batsman than most I think.
I think [hope] Australia might be angling to use 5 specialist bowlers in the next ODI World Cup: ie Starc Cummins Hazelwood and then Zampa AND Agar. This would be a good move.
But the trade off is having more specialist batsmen (and fewer allrounders). Ie Head Warner Smith our top 3, with Carey and Maxwell at 5 and 6. That leaves really only number four open – for someone like Marnus or Handscomb (over a Green/MMarsh/Stoinis).
Green of course could play easily instead of a quick or a second spinner if that provides better balance in the conditions. Or ahead of Maxi if he doesn’t return.
Marnus will I think be given some opportunities. Hopefully he finds some form.
The other main option the way I see things would be to put Head at #4, with Phillippe opening – and then stacking the middle order with allrounders. Eg:
Warner
Phillippe (+)
Smith
Head
Green
Stoinis
Maxwell
Starc
Cummins C
Hazlewood
Zampa
Will be interesting to see what the selectors do.
Heady days: Openers star as Aussies begin post-Finch era with resounding win over England
Yes we needed Agar.
IMO the only players that came out better than expected in this WC were (1) Agar (from very limited time in the middle) and (2) Stoinis – for when he was hitting out!
FLEM’S VERDICT: Australia flat as a tack when they should’ve been rocking and rolling against Afghans to book semi
100% if it was Patty C!!
'Imagine that was Warner': Cricket world divided over Kane Williamson's 'blatant bit of cheating' against England
Agreed Geoff.
I reckon Steve Smith is a better T20 batsmen rn than Kane.
Bit disappointed with Williamson claiming that – and also Ashwin in the Pakistan match. I felt they’d know they didn’t catch it and it actually hit the ground.
What about Kohli’s pretend throw last night?!
'Imagine that was Warner': Cricket world divided over Kane Williamson's 'blatant bit of cheating' against England
Yeah looks like this WC has slipped away from Australia – main issues being old-school selection strategy, over-reliance on Finch and Cummins, overlooking Agar/Green, maybe a lack of focus in the game vs Kiwis….
Time to start the re-building process in the T20 game for Australia. I’d like to see more imagination – we need Zampa + Agar, we need Green, maybe only 1 or 2 of the “big 3” quicks, a new wk too; we need a refreshed outlook generally.
I also think we need some solid batsmen to build innings around – eg Travis Head to be combined with Josh Philippe/Ben McDermott at the top of the order.
Will be interesting to see what actually happens though….
Ponting says Aussies should consider punting Cummins so Green can add all-round talents to struggling side
yeah we definitely need Agar as well as Zampa. I’d have Agar in for Cummins myself, but would be fine if this was for David as well. Agar just provides such stability in the middle overs – very rarely goes above 7rpo!
Stoinis, if injured, would be a big loss!
Otherwise, getting Smith/Agar/Green in for some of the injured players might not be a bad thing.
REPORT: Firing Finch, bowler blitz seal Aussie win over Ireland - but chance to fix net run rate blown
Massive shame! There’s still so much hope for Will P!
Cricket News: Maxwell takes gloves as Wade contracts COVID, Pucovski takes break, Finch shuts down Cummins axe call
Kiwis! Lol 🙂
I can’t see NZ competing with India/England/Australia at the business end of this tournament. A little too fragile mentally….
FLEM’S VERDICT: England can be rolled like their Prime Ministers if Aussies make a couple of subtle changes
Post finch warner smith maxwell starc stoinis hazlewood and cummins, what’s our best/future T20 XI look like?
Something like:
Philippe +
McDermott
MMarsh C
Head V
Green
David
Hardie
Agar
JRichardson
Ellis
Zampa
Thoughts Roarers?
FLEM’S VERDICT: England can be rolled like their Prime Ministers if Aussies make a couple of subtle changes
Finch to be a specialist (c) and imo to be listed at #10 himself lol
REACTION: Stoinis 'puts on a clinic', Finch admits to poor showing, Starc threatens Mankad, Agar to stay?
Yeah Head was in my preferred 15.
If you consider the post-T20 World Cup Australian T20 team (post Finch, Cummins, Wade, maybe Warner, etc.)…Head will be an absolute mainstay you’d imagine….
I think in terms of structure of the XI, Australia looks better with 5 specialist bowlers – ie Agar in no matter what so that there are no easy overs for the opposition.
REACTION: Stoinis 'puts on a clinic', Finch admits to poor showing, Starc threatens Mankad, Agar to stay?
Agree with most of that 13th Man!
Agar was quality. Green should come in for Cummins as the fifth bowler – leaving MMarsh/Maxwell/Stoinis as the 6th option. Time to go Patty C for this tournament!
Finch was poor….. He’ll still play though.
But, realistically, our best XI for the remainder of this tournament would be:
Warner
Green
MMarsh
Smith
Stoinis
Maxwell
Wade+
Agar
Starc
Zampa
Hazlewood
REACTION: Stoinis 'puts on a clinic', Finch admits to poor showing, Starc threatens Mankad, Agar to stay?
Wow! Inexplicable cricket – exciting for the neutral!
REACTION: Kohli's classic 'one of India's best knocks, not just his best' as cricket world buzzes with excitement
Yep performances are what count Don (including from any IPL or BBL perspective). Hope PattyC is tearing apart lineups from Tuesday again!! 🙂 That’s what matters to me – the quality of our national lineup
FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Write it off as a shocker' - No need for panic stations despite Aussies' World Cup nightmare
I think this is true 13th Man.
Hopefully there’ll be a natural change after this world cup whatever happens. Where the T20 squad can regenerate – with this having good consequences for the likes of Cummins/Hazelwood’s Test careers/longevity.
Naturally, there should be room for the likes of McDermott Philippe Ellis Agar Hardie to come through in a newer-looking T20 outfit
FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Write it off as a shocker' - No need for panic stations despite Aussies' World Cup nightmare
Indeed they do.
You assume I support certain political views?
I am not really political – I don’t fight any particular corner. But I don’t think any top flight cricketer should be putting forward views prior to major matches. They should be fully focussed on the game at hand, rather than fighting causes. Whatever causes those may be.
It is about focus. I’d rather last night’s XI be fully focused on the match – rather than anything else be it financial risks, personal issues, political matters etc. I can’t think Cummins prepared usually last week…..
FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Write it off as a shocker' - No need for panic stations despite Aussies' World Cup nightmare
Yeah Cummins is an outstanding Test bowler. Let’s hope he remains as such for the next 5 years+ – without the need to air political views immediate prior to big matches. He should stay in his lane.
Outstanding Test bowler. My favourite current cricketer as a player. Good captain.
FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Write it off as a shocker' - No need for panic stations despite Aussies' World Cup nightmare
We must work with this squad unfortunately – although the selectors missed a trick by having Finch in the squad still, and possibly others like Starc/Stoinis. There’s been no natural regeneration.
Green for Stoinis. And Agar or Kane Richardson for Cummins IMO. Afterall, Stoinis outbowled pattyC last night….
Smith will be needed against England too (probs instead of David). Note how NZ still play Williamson and India still play virat.
cummins should go IMO. He hasn’t been good for a while in shorter formats. We need more variety like Ellis/Agar/even Kane Richardson. And there’s no room for putting political views ahead of focus on international tournaments. Australia looked flat from the get-go and the Cummins/woke comments couldn’t have helped…..so why say that OMG!
It won’t happen of course, but Boland in for Cummins for the Test team should at least be considered well if the need to speak on politics is so important (I’d say the same on any political topic). I’d rather our XI/squads are complete focused on cricket only – especially for the Ashes and the next Test tour to India. In fact, we should demand players be completely focussed on the next cricketing matter at hand.
FLEM'S VERDICT: 'Write it off as a shocker' - No need for panic stations despite Aussies' World Cup nightmare
PeterC – now is a good time if Cummins wants to be an activist.
If he wants to be a top cricketer then leave it to when there’s not a World Cup on. Or the ashes eg.
Cummins should realise this is a distraction for him and more importantly the team.
We’ve all watched the sports docos about focus/concentration/power of the mind etc.
I think PattyC will lose more respect from many cricket fans if this continues….
Cummins under fire for opposition to Alinta Energy deal as Diamonds strike truce over Hancock dispute
Don – you’re only responding on the Test team because WA is 7/180 vs NSW having chosen to bat!
Meanwhile, Davey and Head continuing to pile on the runs against the poms…love it!
Agar getting his turn could be another unlucky break for Maxwell’s chances of Australian return in any format
