Every year a large contingent of NRL players, both established stars and wannabees, leave the NRL for the English Super League seeking adventure, fame, or just an opportunity to prolong their playing careers and earn a few more dollars.

A lot has already been written, and no doubt there’s a heap more to come, about the chances of each of the 16 nations contesting this year’s Rugby League World Cup (RLWC), which begins in a month’s time.
Time to put the kettle on while you’re waiting for the outcome
Who were the big winners at the World Cup?
Les Hanigan from the late 60’s, early 70’s was such a player. There was nothing of him but he could really motor and was a prolific try scorer. In more recent times, Slippery Morris was a diminutive winger who was extremely quick and scored a heap of tries.

Unfortunately he was getting on a bit by the time he got to manly and only scored 41 tries in 60 games 😊

Still, going a fair bit better in Australia than rugby 😂

Scott Minto would have scored nearly as many in that backline and playing outside GI

Imagine if he played for a dominant club

Good stuff Mark. You’ve put some thought into it, possibly more thought than the IRL

If there was a try on….Morris scored it.

The harsh reality is, whether we like it or not, there are only two top tier competitions, the NRL and the ESL. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Just a fact.
We are fortunate, from a RLWC perspective, that Australia is, and has always been, such a popular place to migrate to, and that the heritage representation rules were introduced.

Who were the big winners at the World Cup?
Thanks David. My main beef with the small in goals is a safety thing. I remember Brett Morris nearly killing himself some years ago. If they’re going to have the small in goals, they really need to install some serious padding.
Who were the big winners at the World Cup?
Thanks Mark, let’s wait and see the outcome.
If they lose money at this World Cup, surely they’ll treble their losses at the next World Cup in France?
Was the Rugby League World Cup a success?
Munster was below par I thought, and Val had some good moments, but suffered from playing outside Wighton who doesn’t seem to enjoy passing the ball.
